Southwest Illinois | In perfect conditions you may not see much difference. As beans get dryer and shorter the advantage grows a bunch. We we tried one the first year we were in 45-55 bu beans and the header loss advantage was running .5-.7bu/acre. Beans were well under $10 at the time so we were kind of reluctant as we generally grow only 900-1000 acres of beans in a year. But we still did it for the earlier and later harvesting and the even feeding. This past year we cut some sub 40 bushel beans that were very short. I know we saved a ton of beans with it in the short ones vs our old auger head. Even in the spots that they were less than 12" tall we didn't lose hardly any. Plus as beans were 8-9% moisture we heard maybe 2 or 3 beans hit the winshield all day. We would never go back. | |
