Subject: Automated Fuel Delivery (tank monitor)

N.C. IA

Went to local fuel co-op meeting yesterday. BTW, not a regular co-op, but strictly petroleum co-op. They were pushing the new tank monitor system where your tank gets to a certain level, and a truck from the terminal is dispatched automatically. The jist of it is that it is an extension of Cenex's storage capacity to avoid seasonal outages, and price fluctuation of product while in transport the old conventional way because of the way they dispatch/bill it out. There are three options for paying. 1) Deferred Billing - tank is filled, and billed for usage monthly (as determined by tank monitor) X monthly average price, 2) Tank Settlement Option - pay for fuel delivered upon delivery or anytime before usage if you think the price is going to increase. 3) Contracting - Same as above, but contract price is used. There were a lot of questions, and seemed like all the negative aspects that could happen were addressed, such as, can put system on hold if you don't want your tanks filled for any reason, ie., want to price shop and get fuel from a different supplier, want to put winter blend in when tank gets empty, etc. You never pay for more fuel than metered gallons on delivery ticket. Quantity discounts are always enforced based on tank size no matter what gallons they deliver. They said the systems are really happening in WI,MN,NE, and the Dakotas. So, lets hear it, good or bad?

P.S. Please, don't want to hear that I need a 10000 gallon tank and get fuel by the transport, that would take almost 3 years to burn up on my operation. Thanks for the responses.
