I have gotten a few Word files emailed to me and tapping on the icon in the email opened them right up.

Rock County, MN | FileAid is currently free. It will let you view all MS Office documents. http://www.digidna.net/products/fileapp

NO app is needed to view Office documents in iOS. Editing is another thing, but viewing is entirely possible with no 3rd party apps. I can say this for certain on Excel and Word files - not sure about Powerpoint - never tried it - but willing to bet it does. Edited by McCartman 2/1/2012 21:06

Is it a .doc file or a .docx file? Either way, I have not personally had a Microsoft Office file sent to me that I could not open with my 4S. I don't know if the files were .doc or .docx though. If you knew, I would send myself the version you're having problems with and see if it still works ok.
