How often does everyone change hydraulic/transmission fluid in their tractors? In the past we have changed it every other year (about 500-600 hours) and changed the filter every year. On a 8000 seiries deere the owners manual says do it every 1500 hours. Just wondered what everyone else does?

Jackson County, AL | Change it? Hoses bust enough for us so we are able to just replace it.

wcmn | if you owned the mx 210 we own you never need to change it because we always are having hyd hoses blow and we lose all the oil at least a couple times a year

NW VA | Same here, we buy plenty of hy-gard without having to change it.

South central, Nebraska | Good chance you will save a lot of money over the years especially on hydraulic oil if it test OK.

South central IL | Seems like my deere is the same way. I go thru enough hyd oil that it is changed be fore the year is up. I do change filters on a regular basis though.

I suppose the best/cheapest way would be to test it to determine if it needs changed or not. Hydraulic oil does wear out eventually like other oils. There is nothing miraculous about it, meaning that it never needs to be changed.......

Saronville NE | Bout every other yr or 1k hrs whichever comes first. Blow enuff hyd hoses a yr that usually has fairly fresh oil in it anyways.

These guys that say they dont have to change hyd oil make me cringe,,,,,,,,,,i have bought tractors like that,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,For those guys that think otherwise i give you a challenge,,,,,,,,,,hook a hyd hose to a hyd outlet and pump the oil into a five gallon pail till it is almost full,,,,,,,,,,in good lighting conditions like direct sunlight i guarantee you will see silver metal filings in your oil ,,,,,especially when you swirl the oil around a bit with something like a paint mixer stick,,,,,,,,,dont jump on me with a reply now until you have tried this,,,,,,,,,,,it is only on fairly fresh new oil you will not see the metal filings

Westphalia Texas [central texas] | I have always heard that hyd oil does wear out , the additives do, fell as much oil as we add the additives are getting replaced, change filters for normal gear wear metal and also put magnets in the rear ends. I agree with dzluvr about oil with some shiny metal but theres is a lot left in the housing's when you drain the oil, i think the magnets gather it up when the tractor's at rest.

South central, Nebraska | I believe most most major equipment companies and oil suppliers have test kits available. You just have to fill out the paperwork. They can test it based on where its from whether it is engine oil, hydraulic oil, or whatever. Seems like a good tool to use if you want to.

Southwest Ontario | We change everything at 1000 hrs. Our CIH 7100's never have leaks, but I suppose we could not change our MX's as they often do sometimes I'll bump the change back 500 hrs if a lot got out.
