We don't freeze the ground a lot here and what we do get we can't count on. Thats one of the reasons I went with a shank machine. Pasturing early in the fall before it gets wet sure helps. Don't have many worms either. Conventional tillage COC has made a big improvement in my soils. Everyone seems to think alfalfa is good for building soil. It's my opinion alfalfa is very hard on the soil. Very little residue returned and all the P & K mined out.
