Looking at updating tractors. Are the 8870s a good machine? Its a one owner 4300 hours, super steer mfd,new tires all the around.Four remotes but does not have mega flow.I dont really need mega flow the only thing i will run is a 12 row White planter. It will replace a 5088 two wheel drive.

I've got an 8770 and get along great with it. Only real issue I've had is with the hydraulic O rings in the remotes. When they go out, it lets oil bypass internally to the next remote. Cost about $600 to have the dealer install new ones.
I recommend having the codes pulled from the computer. It will tell you how worn the packs are in the transmission, plus if the engine has ever been run hot or run out of oil.

dig the old one out with a curved pick and put the new one in. I watched a mechanic do it one time and he changed 3 sets of remotes in minutes. I'm not near that fast because my fingers are fat and I can't see that well.

You are correct there. But I have not heard of much trouble with them. The ones on the couplers don't seem to last long and are what causes most leaks. They are an easy fix.

I wouldn't be too worried about the error codes -- we have an 8670 and most of the time the error codes represent a sensor going bad.
The later models are better. Our's is a 94 and we had some problems with the fuel injector and a burned pistons. Appearently, those issues were fixed in the later models.
