Here is a 1949 International Harvester refrigerator I bought off of Craig's List for $200. Works great and cleans up nice. Will put it in the farm cabin and use it for "lemonade and sweet tea".

I was the first caller on the listing and bought it right away. The seller was flooded with calls including several that offered more than the asking price. He kept his word and sold it me. Be careful Eddie............you will be surprised at the interest in these refrigerators.

Had a IH fridge in the porch for years. It still was cooling but the motor quit. Might have been a simple switch.

It's tough sometimes to keep modern refrigerators in working order for 10 yrs, let alone 50. They definitely don't build refrigerators like they used to.

very good to know, may put mine on craigslist and see if I can get enough to buy a new one to replace it.  The buyer carrying the box of sand out will be part of the deal though.

They knew how to build them. We finally took our parents out a couple of years ago. It still cooled but it was rusting away. Seems like everytime it comes up on Agtalk, there a bunch of people who still have them or only recently replaced them. They made them too good, thats why they quit making them, not too many repeat customers since they never wore out.

The other night on that restoration show on channel 269 they restored one that looks alot like that one and it was a kelvinator. They painted it teal green just like a 1957 chevy and it looked great.

If you've ever watched the televison program "Friends" you might notice that the fridge in their apartment is an IH....from what I hear there are folks doing restorations of old refrigerators and getting quite high prices for them.

We had on old IH upright Freezer in the basement that went with the house we had 25 years ago. It filled with ice, not easy to move, it stayed with the house when we sold it !
Older, very well made, energy conserving, Not!

Figure it out, mini-fridges sell for under $100. newer energy conserving. They will pay for themselves in less than "one" year.

Yeah, when I moved into my grandparents old place there was a 1950 IH freezer that they had purchased new. It quit working a few years later. It was a huge chest type freezer that you could have put about four bodies in. It was in the basement and it was incredibly heavy.

Ha! Yeah, and like the rotary, they invented refrigeration and then sat on the concept for a couple decades until someone was selling units for about that long- and then, PRESTO! "Deere actually invented the _______." Local dealer tried that one on me while I was picking up parts for a Deere rotary. Some people... - Mike

That thing is awesome. My college had one in the science faculty cafeteria. I was always plotting how to "borrow" that unit without getting busted. You have inspired me to take another look sometime when I am in town... Maybe with the service truck parked in front... looking official like... nuthin' to see here folks, just some refrigerator service...

Better have a small army available to carry that thing. My grandparents had 2 in there basement, when they went bad we stripped the lids and compressors off and it still took four men and a lot of effort to hoist those things up the steps. Grandpa said they dropped them in the hole of the basement with a loader tractor and then built the house around the freezers. One thing about them though, they were built like a brick grawlixhouse.

Yeah, you are correct, but I had to rant. This afternoon: 9770 w/ endless electrical issues and the dealer wound me up about "inventing"the rotary. Sorry, but it was on my mind.... -m

Just bought a 5.1 cu foot upright at Sears yesterday. $227. Kid brought it out and layed it on its side in back of truck before I could get over to him. I asked him why he did that, and he said, "Don't worry, you just let it sit for 24 hours before you plug it in." Grrrrrrrr!!!!!!!
