Eastern Iowa | I normally rent my neighbor's 60 acres for row crop production. Because of a special watershed project, he decided to fallow the farm under a state incentive program for the summer in order to get his dozer work all done. He plans on renting to us again for corn next year, but when the construction work is done he wants to plant something he can bale to feed his cows this winter.
What kind of annual crop can a guy drill in mid to late July that will still produce plenty of bulk to bale for cows in late Sept or beginning of October? I will likely no-till into it next spring if he cuts it just before first frost.
