SE Idaho | My Duramax gauges decided to stop working. It used to not work until the glow plugs quit cycling but now they just don't work at all. Real tough guessing the level in the fuel tank or the speed down the road. Is there a relay or something that may be bad? If so where would it be located at? TIA Edited by hamerspud 5/30/2011 02:05

The instrument cluster is the issue. A very common problem on these years. There was an extended warranty on them but you may be too old to qualify. There are some people on Ebay fixing them reasonable. INDY

High Springs, Florida | Mine got intermittent, then I read something on dieselplace.com about the instrument cluster acting wacky if you had one or more bad batteries. I took it to the local starter/alternator shop and they found one bad battery. Replaced both batteries and have not had the problem since. This may not apply in your case, though, but costs nothing to load test the batteries.

Hertford,NC | It might be the circuit board that runs the instrument cluster

Centralia, MO | If you happen to have less than 70K on the truck there was a warranty but you probably passed that mark years ago.

SE Idaho | Thanks for the insight. Yes it has passed the 70K mark by a bout 55K. I was hoping it would be something simple, great.

Huntley Montana | I had the wifes suburban done befor I found the speedometerrepairguy, cost about $500 at the STEALER. Cluster can be removed & vehicle used while being fixed. Be nice if they had made it right to where you didn't have to remove it

SE Idaho | Do you have to pull the whole dash apart in order to get the dumb thing out?

Huntley Montana | Molding pops off & the whole cluster comes right out in 1 piece.. Call this fellow & he'll explane it as you do it 507-429-4489. I sent mine in the USPO's 1 price box's & I think he shipped them back UPS. Had him do 3 for me, at $50 & frieght it was worth it, at $500 for the ST(d)ealer it wasn't.

Stepper motor. You can buy the motors for $75 I believe. If you have some basic soldering skills its not to bad. Here is a good writeup on how to do it. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=111267... Edited by 1chevy02 5/30/2011 17:00

SE Idaho | Thanks Badger, I will get in touch with this guy. You're right in that there is no difference with it gone or not working.
