Ordered a trailor today for hauling cattle & sales man asked if I wanted rumber flooring, I've never heard of it, it currently has the wood flooring in, if I went with rumber the floor would be made out of thick rubber & have extra bracing as it is not as solid as wood. what are your thoughts?? worth $1300 on a 24ft trailor?? what other options?? I think wood floor would be too slick for cattle.

WY, OK
Never heard of rumber but one of our trailers has a inch or two thick rubber mat in it over the wood, isn't too slick and keeps the wood nice as new. You do have to shovel the trailer out more since there are no slots for anything to fall through. Think it was some horse thing since PO used it for horses.

I looked at Rumber 4 years ago when I bought my Titan and decided to go with wood. I talked to two people who had it and they both said Rumber is way more slippery then wood. Besides, I bought a steel trailer and everyone said the sides would be rusted out 10 years before the wood floor gave out so why buy rumber. (actually it still looks like new)

Neighbors us old cattle or hog pannels. I've thought about tread off of top fuel tires as I can get virgin tread after the lab is done with the tires or a woven tire mat like Garvo has coming out of his chute.

Don't the welds on the galvanized cattle panels break loose? Heck, I've got trouble with the welds coming loose even in places where the cattle aren't standing on them.

I'd be concerned about possible hoof/foot injuries with the galvanized panels. I admit I have never used them and have no experience. Looks like galvanized wire panels would also make trailer cleanout a more dirty and difficult job too.

I bought 4 - 4'x6' rubber mats I put down crosswise. Works good.especially to take slickness out. I use no bedding of any kind.
I've put a new wood floor in the trailer a few years ago and with the mats there is no impact wear to the wood at all. I take up the mats and clean everything out with the pressure washer. The wood looks as good as it did several years ago when it was put in. I have put sealer on the wood.
The replacement floor is rough cut pine with a slight gap between boards while the original floor (or at least the floor in it when I got the trailer) was tongue and groove fir. Trailer is a 1973 16' WW steel bumper pull.

I also have a Titan trailer, a 1994 steel 7'x20' gooseneck I bought used. It has a wood floor and solid rubber mats. I believe the floor is original and is still good. The 4 mats are solid. Due to the mat design they are tough to clean with a shovel but a pressure washer does a great job.

I have 2 trailers with wood floors and solid rubber mats since '98 they are very good for cattle traction but are harder to clean. The extra bracing could be a good idea but wood with mats is a very good combo.

On the floor of our wooden trailer for at least the last 20 years is an epoxy coating with quarter inch chip gravel sprinkled evenly over the floor embedded in the epoxy. It gives very good traction all year round while still allowing a person to shovel it clean . I don't know who makes it today but a little searching and you should be able to do it yet. I would highly recommend it.

I know this is a little late. Might depend on the make of the trailer but I love the rubber floor in our 34 foot W & W. It's self cleaning and never have to add sand or do anything else for the slipperyness. The rubberslats look to be about the size of 2x6s but have a large raised ridges to prevent the slipping. I wouldn't even consider buying anything else now. JMHO
