Under heavy load our gas tractor manifold will glow red at night, much hotter than 600°. Manifolds crack because of expansion. Unless the JB weld expands at the exact same rate as the iron it'll pop off.

I think nickel rod would be the best match to the iron unless the iron is too rotten to weld.
