NW Missouri
I noticed you are using a wooden side feed bunk in your finishing building and this seems to follow what I have seen in the hoop buildings as well. I am sure they are much less costly than a precast bunk for your application but do you have a feel for the life expectancy vs. the concrete bunk? Cost comparison? Are you using a rough sawn board? Oak or pine? I would guess that you would get a limited amount of protection from rain with the overhang but not continual. I appreciate you posting all the pictures as it gives myself and others ideas to improve our own facilities as well as drool over some of the best I have seen. Thanks again. B

2x12 douglas fir lumber on the outside-2-on the inside I use 2-2x8 16ft,tubing on 8ft center, then guardrail spaced 16inch up,have some drivealong bunks 25 years old outside and have the orignal lumber,I use the 2x8 to pour the bunk floor then just bolt the boards on after pouring the floor. The reason I use wood is the calves seem to adapt quicker, and I want by bunk floor low so that the calf has to have its head down, seems to clean there snot out better! Also if I back into running the payloader or feedwagon a board is pretty easy to fix, concrete bunk would break. One other reason,my floor of the bunk is a 8inch curb to scrap along(manure on the inside) snow on the outside.
