western iowa,by Denison | 2x12 douglas fir lumber on the outside-2-on the inside I use 2-2x8 16ft,tubing on 8ft center, then guardrail spaced 16inch up,have some drivealong bunks 25 years old outside and have the orignal lumber,I use the 2x8 to pour the bunk floor then just bolt the boards on after pouring the floor. The reason I use wood is the calves seem to adapt quicker, and I want by bunk floor low so that the calf has to have its head down, seems to clean there snot out better! Also if I back into running the payloader or feedwagon a board is pretty easy to fix, concrete bunk would break. One other reason,my floor of the bunk is a 8inch curb to scrap along(manure on the inside) snow on the outside. | |
