yup, that's true, but we can't count on mexico to cheaply supply our sugar market -- they have quality issues down there. last year our sugar co-op made some extra money by importing mexican sugar, re-refining to USA quality standards, and then reselling it. but that only works if there are US farmers growing beets for the co-op in the first place -- no farmers, no co-op.

USDA, monsanto and the growers' associations all knew this was a possibility; i hope they have a plan b.
