Subject: RE: Switch plows

Eastern VA. No such thing as too many Magnums.
We've had 3 kinds of switch plows, Harrell, Long, and John Deere. I don't have any now. I went back to the 7 bottom on land. On the plus side, the switch plow will leave the land smoother in the end. Any you dont' have dead furrows and back furrows. On the negative side, They wear out faster, they're harder to pull, and they are horrible in heavy trash. I don't see anyway to put coulters on it. We were trying to plow shredded sweet corn stalks. If you hit a few whole stalks, they would drag into a big ball and then you have to lift up and clean out. I wasn't impressed, but most people wouldn't have that much green trash. Seems like a rollover would be better, but I don't have any experience with them. I kinda like the old cheap Deere 2700 regular plow.
