Does anyone know of a source for divided covered dishes that would be used to take meals to the field? Also, anyone have some quick, easy recipes for field meals? Or, good crock pot recipes? Thank you.

Blooming where I am planted!

Here you go Pam.  You can buy these at drugstore.com or directly from SCJohnson at the Ziploc website.

http://www.drugstore.com/products/prod.asp?pid=220989&catid=135133&aid=337950&aparam=ziploc_divided_container&CAID=96fee230-0a95-4402-bb6a-c762db9146b8

I have some recipes but am short on time to hand type them in right now.  Perhaps others can chime in on that.

I hadn't seen these yet, thank you. They will work great for cold meals .... any suggestions for hot meals? I have tried finding the divided covered plates like you would use in the microwave, but they are either plastic & wouldn't hold the heat, or they are a very small plate with a low level divider - I believe they are Nordic Ware.

If you have a Sam's Club close, you can get the regular divided styrofoam meal boxes that the restaurants use. I think they're 100 to a pkg, and not terribly expensive. I have space in the basement storeroom to keep them, and a package of 100 will last us more than one season. Our d-i-l is the queen of the field meal, so I supply some of the "needs" and she does the work.

Since I'll be out of a job after next week, I'll step up and do more to help her out with that. She works from home, so it's been a decent arrangement so far.

We're about 95 miles from a pretty large Sam's, so we (d-i-l and I) generally make a spring and fall trip for supplies. Their commercial food service area has a lot of things that really are helpful with field meals. We just try to more-or-less balance out the convenience factor against the cost. Have kind of had our eye on the single foil sheets for wrapping hot sandwiches, but haven't brought any home yet............maybe for planting next spring?!? :) It's fun to look, anyway!

MW ON
Mother-in-law shared this one with us recently. I tweaked it a bit, and the family enjoyed it, so it's become a stand-by.

1-2-3-4 Casserole

1 lb ground beef
2 onions
3 carrots
4 potatoes
1 tin mushroom soup + 1/2 can milk
1 package onion soup mix

Mix ground beef with 1 package onion soup mix, place in bottom of casserole. Slice veggies thinly and place in order given on top of meat. Mix soup and milk together, and pour over all. Bake at 350 for 1 hour. Serves 6.

I tried it in the crock pot, and it worked well.

It came from one of her church cookbooks, those have to be the best!

This sounds wonderful, phranny. Of course, we have lots of beef in the freezer .. so, this will work perfect. Looks easy, too!

Logan Co. Ill.

I made an easy Italian Beef in the crock pot today.

Take 3 1/2 lb chuck roast and cover with 1 envelope onion soup mix and 1 envelope dry italian dressing seasoning. Cook low and slow all day.  Just shred meat and serve on your favorite bread!

Chopped green pepper, chopped celery, chopped Onion.
That comes with having a Wife from Southern Louisiana!

My favorite recipe is an Onion Pizza. Double up on the onion.
