Mrs. Farmer here. I am in need of new pots and pans. Basic gas open flame stove. Any recommendations. Don't want to spend a small fortune.

Agreed, there is a little bit of maintenance to learn but cast iron is great to cook anything on and a set of quality stuff that will last forever is not a big $ investment. I hardly use the other stuff I have anymore. Get on Amazon and look up Lodge Logic stuff and check out the reviews.

Pampered Chef is what I have, and I LOVE them!  I was a consultant from 2000-2005, so the sets I have are from the older "professional" collection.  I know there have been at least 2 more collections since then.

If you are serious about the PC pans (they do have a lifetime warranty) I suggest you hold a show and use your hostess credit towards the new sets.  Seems like January was usually "pan month" where the sets would be on sale.

Pots and pans along with good knives are well worth the money invested.

Good Luck!

Wife bought some stainless steel pots and pans and we really like the clean up. Not the best for fried eggs/omelets so we keep a teflon around also. Joe.

Wife uses Circulon cooking pans in her catering business. They're not cheap, for some of the bigger pans she paid over $100 each, but they're worth the money & have a lifetime guarantee. So far she has had two replaced with no questions asked. One was dropped & the handle broke & the other had the coating start to flake off but not many ordinary people will fry 3-400 swiss steaks in a year in one, let alone that many in a day as she has done several times.

For fried chicken & fried fish you can't beat a good cast iron skillet that has been "seasoned" correctly.

We have Calphalon and Stainless with the copper plate at the bottom, they both have their place, the Calphalons a bit pricey, I got most of ours gently used on e-bay, as stated earlier every one has to have a couple of Teflon pans for omelets and such, my personal favorite is the calphalon, especially for a stock pot,,it's much better for heating a pot of soup without burning the bottom as the heat goes all the way up the sides, and it's easy to clean,,,,,,,,good luck.............JD

I bought a new set after many months of researching them. I hate paying much for a set because they don't last a lifetime as they all seem to claim. I have outlived my "lifetime" set! I purchased a new set this year from Wal-mart made by Tramontina. It is their Tri-Ply Clad and they came in a plain brown box. Almost all pots and pans are made in China anyway, but this set is really nice and they are stainless steel inside. I keep a can of Bar Tenders Friend (next to the Comet in the grocery store) on hand to keep them shiny and new. I love how they cook. They were around a hundred buckeroos for the whole set too. I did purchase an extra large soup pot from the same brand to go with the set.
