What in the world was that outfield umpire looking at? A foul ball! He should be fined for being so blind.

How he missed that call was unreal he was 20 ft away... how we couldn't get a run in with bases loaded no outs equally unreal.... 18 runners LOB never going to beat the yanks that way...

I agree. That's the difference between wins and losses. The foul call was crazy. Mauer could've/would've eventually scored had that been a double. But, like all season, we need starters to go into the seventh or eighth inning AND THEN a bullpen that'll shut them down! Blackburn pitched a great game again, but didn't get a win, once again.

Yea, the Teins had more than their chances, so won't blame the loss on the blind umpire.

But, what is he out there for, if he can't get _that_ call right????? I mean, balls & strikes you get some wrong in a day, and a real close play or a blocked view - they will miss a few.

But how can you miss that call when it is not even close, and that is the only reason he is standing there all night long?

Why would you bring in a closer when the pither that was in is pitching great. Closer, base hit, two run shot, then solo shot. I would have left in the other guy. but what do I know.

Why did you post this in "The Kitchen Table"?

You must watch your TV while eating dinner.  Wink

I think they should let Ronnie G.(Twins manager) and this so called ump in a room alone for lets say about 15 minutes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

He should never get to see a baseball field as an ump ever again.

That maybe a little much... He is actually one of the top umps in the game... Otherwise he wouldn't be workin the playoffs....

It would be kinda gun to see Gardy get his anger management taken care of on the guy tho? :)

That's what makes it such a deal in my mind. That is the exact call that ump is out in the field to make. It is his only thing to do. He doesn't have to watch multiple things, like calling strikes & see if the batter got hit. Or see if the ball was gloved & if a foot is on the bag. Those infield umps are busy, I can forgive a bad call, even if it is wrong.

But this - it was such a simple thing. And it wasn't on the line. It was a fair ball in 2 different ways - it touched the glove with the fielder well in play. And it landed well within the line in fair play.

How can that be missed by the line ump when he is standing right there with nothing else to judge, nothing blocking him?

Again, the Twins had ample chance to win that game, I won't blame the ump for the Twin's loss. But - it sure is a bad, bad, bad call. One wonders if he should be an ump if he messes up that call?

Not a Twins fan, nor a Yankee one either, but I told my wife as soon as the ball hit that it was a fair ball & a ground rule double. Couldn't believe it when it was called fouled & even more so when the replay showed the ump's positioning. But as someone who coached for 18 years, I always told my players to never put themselves in a position where a bad call will cost you a game, which is what the Twins did.
