Subject: RE: Corn cob weight per bushel?

EC MN - Hour North of 'The Cities'
I think I've got it figured out, but you can help me check my math.

1 bushel of shelled corn = 56 lbs and is equal to 1.25 cubic feet

1 bushel of ear corn = 72 lbs and is equal to 2.5 cubic feet

So, 1.25 cubic feet of ear corn will weigh 36 lbs (half the volume, half the weight).

2.5 cubic feet of ear corn will shell out to 1.25 cubic feet of shelled corn, or 56 lbs of shelled corn. 72 lbs - 56 lbs = 16 lbs of cob in 2.5 cubic feet of ear corn, or 8 lbs in 1.25 cubic feet of ear corn (half the volume/half the weight).

Took me awhile to realize a bushel of shelled corn is not the same volume as a bushel of ear corn!

Thanks for the help guys!
