If your use is limited as you describe, I would try 3, 12 volt deep cycle batteries in series. For extended continuous use, they will not last like 6, 6 volts but you're probably in a situation where you can hook up a charger as needed. And if they don't work out, you can always use the 12 volts somewhere. I replaced 6, 6 volts in a 36 volt golf cart with 3 12 volts. It worked OK but they discharged pretty fast.
