Subject: white 2-150 ?

WCIN
I need a rebuild kit for a white 2-150. WHere is the best place to buy one and is there anything I should know before starting this project? I think somebody just did a 135 - 150 a while back? Thanks.

I'm not sure if there is a best place to get a kit, but I do remember the heads being hard to seal and having waterleaks until I used the permatex aviation gasket stuff. After that it was fine.

Hope this helps,

Pat

Embarrass WI

Don't know where the best place to by parts is, but you should know if you didn't that the 150 is a completely different engine than the 135 or 155. 135/155 is a Waukesha/Hercules 6cyl/turbo and the 150 is a Mineapolis Moline 6 cyl/no turbo engine. Neighbor used to have 2 of the 150's, they had trouble keeping them running and finally gave up.

As far as I know, no engine parts interchange between a 150 and a 135/155.

It's the old minny engine and I think it's a 585 cubic inch or something with the cylinders and head split into sets of 2. It's a dry sleeve engine so you'll have to bore it or bore it/sleeve and get the appropriate pistons.

Hope this helps,

Pat

Southeast Florida
I know nothing about them but I did see on this website a while back about a B and C series Cummins replacement for White's.

While a Cummins replacement would be a good engine there is NO 2-150 that is worth spending that kind of $ on.

If you're going to spend that kind of money at least start with a good tractor (2-135/2-155/2-180) that has a blown motor.

A 2-150 with a 5.9 would be worth almost exactly the same as what the motor itself is worth.

Here is a link to the Cummins repower kits.

I would agree that 2-150's are not worth spending a whole lot on. We bought one new in 1975 and ran it until 2003 when the engine blew. It had been overhauled once before. I traded for a White 6215 and love it. I have heard that the MM engines in those are difficult to overhaul due to the different specs, etc. I would never do it without consulting with someone who had done it before...successfully. Good luck.

Mid Michigan
Put a $1000 dollar used 3208 Cat in there and pretend you have a 2-180. Would probably be a pretty straightforward job. The 3208 would probably be a bunch better than the old 585 diesel and a whole lot cheaper in the long run. Good luck if you rebuild the 585. Maibach tractor should be able to set you up for parts.

Don't think so.

True, other than the cab and paint color, the White 2-150 and the Cat V8 powered Oliver have pretty much the same back halfs.
And there was a MM 585 cube powered twin to the 2255, the Minneapolis-Moline G-1355.

Putting a Cat V8 in that MM front frame would be a pretty darn hard job. Probably easier to fit a 505 or 359 Cummins.
I doubt if I would spend any money on a 2-150, repower or major overhaul.

I have neighbors here in Ohio that can answer any questions you might have:
Everett Bros 740-922-3335

If they don't have the parts in stock they can get them very quickly.

A good AGCO dealer who has history with Whites should be able to help you; I'm pretty sure that AGCO still carries parts for this engine as it was produced in some numbers on both the MM and the White side. It is a purely MM engine from heritage even though it likely has a White nameplate on the side. The 2-135/155 engines were a White engine entirely. Some years prior, White had purchased the Hercules engine company and the 478 motor developed for the 2-135/155 came from the Hercules heritage but was a White engine. I would agree that there are probably slightly better tractor to use to farm with if you're going to put a pile of money into this rebuild, but the 2-150 is old enough to start being considered a collector tractor, and there were not a ton of them produced as they were only offered for 2-3 years ('75/'76/part of '77??). So from that standpoint, if you're looking for a collector project tractor, I would say it is a pretty good choice. It is also large enough with enough power to be useful on the farm yet. That said, the first thing I would get myself starting into this project is the complete White shop manual for this tractor that includes the engine section which will walk you through the entire rebuild process step by step so that even a guy with average mechanic ability can tackle the job. White wrote excellent service manuals that are easy to follow, have good pictures, and contain all the specs and diagrams you need. Don't try to do it with just an A&I manual. Contact the Floyd County Historical Society in Charles City, Iowa and they'll get you a complete copy of this very reasonably. Good luck and enjoy the project! Hope to find a good MM or Oliver G1355 (predecessor to the 2-150) to restore myself someday!
