Subject: Post-season root pit

I have been digging in a water line into ground that has been corn/soybean for many years. I know many of you have seen pictures like this before but it was fun to see it for real. What stood out to me is how dark the inside of the worm tunnels are. In brown clay subsoil 5' from the surface the worm holes were dark like topsoil. That has to be a great environment for roots.
