north-central Indiana west of Fulton | More than a week ago posted pictures of old pole and chains of bottom silo unloader . Yesterday we installed new pole ,chains, and hammers(cutters) on the remaining shaft ,and bearings. Approx. weight of pole is around 500 pounds . Pushed pole under tunnel of silo with skid loader ,then hooked a heavy duty come along (which was in silo attached to cable that went up through fill hole and tied to anchor). Slowly ratcheted up and into 28" hole in silo floor (took 3 people to get this done) until it stood verticle. It required 1 person on come along and 2 people scooting bottom of pole toward center. Once upright, had to stand on plank setting across old silage 6' above floor and hand winched it up and above 42"long shaft. Then had to let down over 5" shaft until back to floor level. Hard part was done (wondered if equipment heavy enough) . Attach chains and cutters, tighten all bolts and it's done. More difficult than it sounds!
