Subject: Re: If you could buy any planter.....

We had a Kinze 2600, traded that for a JD 1790 & traded back for a Kinze 3600 which we traded last spring for a CIH 1240. IMO, of those 4 planters the Kinzes gave us the least amount of problems, the 1240 probably the best spaced stands thru all types of conditions & the 1790 the worst seed spacing.

If buying another planter today I would buy another 12xx. Last planter I would buy woulkd be a 1790, think I'd rather quit farming than fight another one of those.

The CIH is our first experience with 20" rows. There's a definete learning curve with them & though we're not completely satisfied with them I still believe there is a lot of potential for 20" corn. I think a lot will depend upon your soil types. What I think I'm seeing so far is that the poorer soils seem to benifit most from the 20s. Like I said, this is our first year & I want to get a few more years of experience before deciding we made the right decision or not. Ask in another 4 -5 years & I'll give you a definete answer
