Subject: Big need to for Oat Forage?

Slowly expanding alfalfa acreage (5-20acres/yr) Companion seeded oats with alfalfa last year on first stand. Harvested oats and made straw bales. Came across some info that if oats are harvested as forage early...alfalfa will fill in faster. I would assume I would have to find someone with forage pick-up header that actually wanted it and pay for it.

Is this worthwhile, does anyone get excited about oat forage/silage? Or should I just harvest oats again and bale straw?

I had to buy dryers for grain wagons last year to dry oats down, cone-type with the holes in it. Then got the oats sold, but barely made anything after buying dryers. We had not done anything with oats on our farm for 15 years, so it was a re-learning curve. Alfalfa looks good though.
