Central To Everything and Close to Nothing
Here in Western Canada, we have been using near infrared imagery as the base map for variable rate fertility which has been working very well. We use the infrared image to create management zones within the field and then intensively soil sample each of these zones to create a fertility recommendation and subsequent Rx map for the application equipment. Soil sampling also provides a good ground truthing to what the imagery tells us. From there the soil test and yield data take us the rest of the way. Although the imagery is good, I would not be confident in making yield predictions with it just yet.
