Subject: without tipping you would probably pay 30%+ more

Lubbock, Texas
most waitstaff does not work 2000 hours a year

if a service person is making 30K a year in a tipping world that would be $15 an hour for 2000 hours a year (40 hours 50 weeks)

this right off means that on nights when it is slow, nights when the event that was going to flood in lets out early, or nights when it rains.......instead of a manager being able to cut front house staff this staff will want to and NEED to sit around in an empty restaurant making 15 an hour for doing nothing

if the place does get slammed......instead of the waitstaff trying to gut it out best they can for the tips......now they just make $15 an hour......here is your food BYE!......get out now......the sooner you leave the sooner I am back to doing nothing.......or here is your food you seem nice, cute, asleep, easy to deal with I am never going to bring your check so you sit there and "camp out" in my booth so I have less work to do instead of getting a new table

if I up sell these people deserts......instead of a bigger check and a bigger tip from that.......I just have more work for $15 an hour

your wait staff at most places will go to the quality of a drive thru or a sandwich artist......and you WILL be paying more

total restaurant sales would probably decline, restaurant staffing cost (and your menu price) would go up DRAMATICALLY, and quality of serivice would drop off the map

up front tipping and the reason for it can EASILY seem to be "the big restaurant passing the buck to the wait staff and it may well have started out like that

but if the USA went to a straight wage straight check system I can 99.99% guarantee that nearly every member of this forum would be less happy with

service, wait times, prices, number of restaurants remaining, and the total restaurant jobs lost

if you have ever worked the industry or known someone that has and you look at hat these rules allow and what would change for the restaurant you can see how changing from tipping for restaurant service staff would be death for restaurants and the dining experience

there ARE places you can go with out tipping, Golden Corral, Bonanza, Sizzler, Ci-Cis, cafeteria, and others like that.....we can see the "success" many of them are having lately.......and for some of them....IMO.....Bon Appétit..............I will pass!
