Near-north Ontario, French River | Not sure what a waiters/waitresses base wage is around here, but i believe soemthing in the neighbourhood of $7.50/hr. Keep in mind thats a base wage. Now figure a good waitress should easily be able to handle 12 diner's ( 3 tables with 4 patrons at each table ) during a one hour sitting. Assuming each tables bill comes to $60 ( gets you a reasonable meal for 4 , but nothing fancy) , and the diners tip a customary 15% that adds up to another $9 PER table, or $36/hr in tips. Here I think the tips are spread out, using some formula, between ALL the employees in the restaurant but I think it would be a reasonable assumption that the waitress would get 20% ( minimum ) of the tips she recieves, or $7.20/hr in tips in addition to the $7.50 base for a total of $14.70/hr... which I dont think is all that bad. FWIW I have a friend who's son works in a high end hotel as a waiter, and he's publicly stated that he pulls in $50k/year as a waiter, and I have no reason to doubt. |
