north central Oklahoma | I tip everybody. My mailman, trash guys, the Schwann guy, UPS if I catch him, the guy that cuts both hairs on my head. I know tham all well, and they do good work for me in their respective fields. If anyone had read the last issue of Reader's Disgust, this very topic was broached and very eye opening from both perspectives. A large group of men and a large group of women dining in any establishment tip nowhere near the same. Professional women are some of the sorriest tippers on the earth, while their male counterparts are typically above average tippers in large groups.
We frequent the same establishments here quite a bit, and the wait staff remember and we often get a few freebies because of it. I honestly don't know why the initial hourly wage can be so low in dining establishments, but it is, I know it, and I acknowledge that these people are trying to help pay for their own way in life, and I do what I can to halp get them there. At least they are not sitting at home watching daytime soap operas all day, while drinking beer, wondering when their next welfare check will arrive.
