Central Alberta | The main reason that there are not many young farmers is the lack of opportunity in the industry. Land is getting more expensive every day which is a signal that there is no opportunity. In our industry we had land sell at record values by an 80 yr old to a 70 yr old buyer. I expect that their will be a lot more opportunity in the industry 20 yrs from now when the baby boom generation which controls most of the farm land today will start to die off. By then I will be 60 so will be looking at retirement myself. | |
