Our geothermal is about 8 years old and I think it has paid for itself already, but very noisy. We think it may be the way the duct work is laid out, but can't get the guy who installed to think about it. We just put up with the noise (lots of air movement!!!) We have only had two repairs, one initially when a fitting broke and last summer when we didn't take care of the filter the way we should have (our fault). The monthly heat/cooling cost has been reasonable. The first year we had it we figured it took $300 to heat and cool the house for the year (of course electricity was cheaper). The air conditioning part is really cheap - usually less than $10 per month for 1500 square feet.
