North Central Kansas
Band of Brothers is not fiction. It is the story of Easy Company of the 101st Airborne. The real men. Not fictional characters. There is one whole episode where they talk to the real men. This is the link to the men it was based on: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_living_Band_of_Brothers_vetera...

I have watched all the WW2 in HD this week. Tonight they were talking about a guy that was in the 84th infantry division (the Railsplitters) Roy Blunt. My dad was in a 105mm howitzer unit. They shot fire support over the 84th at the Battle of the Bulge.

The part that amazes me is the killed and wounded. Some of those battles they were losing thousands of men a day. The media today would be all over themselves reporting those numbers. Any loss of life is terrible but without those sacrifices WWII would never have been won. They do talk a little about public opinion and how it is starting to wain by 1944 and 1945. Those were definitely different people. To even look at them they don't look like the kids of today. They look like men but yet they were only 18-20 years old.

We are hosting an exchange student from Germany this year. It is interesting to talk to her about WWII. I can tell you that they know their history way better than our young people know ours. She watched a little of it with me. She watched Valkryie with me and knows alot about WWII. Her class took a field trip to Buchenwald concentration camp. I found that interesting.
