| Those days fascinate me. A small town attorney friend's brother was killed on Iwo Jima on the last day of the battle; another friend's brother flew with Jimmie Doolittle & was killed; one of my uncles was with Patton in Europe then transferred to the Pacific -- another uncle was in the Navy in the Pacific..neither had seen each other since the war began....when the Phillipines were invaded...my Navy uncle was walking down the steps of a Catholic Church just as my Army uncle was walking up the steps.....TALK ABOUT A ONE IN A MILLION experience! One of my long time CBOT friends was in the D-Day Landing at age of 18....he is still alive and still goes to the CBOT....I remember almost everyone having relatives overseas in those days & listening to the radio at night and anxiously waiting for newspaper reports. A different time. | |
