Subject: Re: The cost of cage free eggs

Oklahoma
Not to try and start a competition here or anything, we sell essentially cage free eggs (penned up at night). I think the area you are in and your crowd has more to do with it than anything. I am getting $2/dozen from coworkers who just want farm raised eggs because of flavor. Most of my customers grew up on a farm and now are living in town and want something that is "fresh". Once I started selling to one guy, word of mouth spread and we will sell 10-12 dozen a week. Nothing to retire on or anything, but it pays the feed bill on all the birds and we have steady supply of eggs and bug control.

I had an offer from a neighbor to buy all I could get him because he is hauling into a city and getting $3/dozen from minority groups that want farm raised produce. I have thought for a long time that we just need to market "farm raised" and not organic or cage free.
