SW IN | One dark, cold rainy night we heard cattle in our front yard. All I could see was three dark shapes when I went to investigate. I couldn't get the three calves to co-operate, and the wife ended up out in the rain to help. After about an hour, we got them in the barn. Flipped on the lights, and turned to the soaking wet, cold wife. "These aren't our calves!" They still had sale barn tags. Needless to say, she was not happy. Turned out to be the neighbor's new freezer beef. It is more humorous when it is told now than when it happened.
For some reason, people want to make it sound like cattle are stampeding down the road when there is a calf outside the fence. Others get confused when you try to pin down where the cattle are, not realizing that you have cattle herds miles apart. I appreciate folks calling about cattle out in my areas, and respond as quickly as I can. Sometimes they are mine, and sometimes not.
