 Macon, IL | Small amount of family ground. 20 years of saving pennies to have enough cash to start with junk equipment. Keep debt low.
I have kept day job, in all likelihood will need to keep day job until retirement age. Have gotten some more ground (thanks to a friend made here on NAT). Dream would be to farm fulltime, but this year taught me realistically limited to a few hundred acres being max I can handle with day job. Jump to enough acres to provide equivalent income/insurance/etc. just not likely.
Is doing it as a "hobby" possible? Can be very rewarding as well. Have made money every year, but on a per hour basis it isn't good.
