Ontario, Canada | We had some sows in pens in groups of 4 or 5. The first few hours were WWF, lots of huffing and puffing and then they would lay there sleeping all day. Then we converted a 750 to loose housing. The sows were in groups of 36 and still had access to their stalls (backs were off). Guess where 90% of the sows stayed all day? In the stalls!!! The rest were the big meanies waiting to take a bite out of anyone that came out.
In the end, what consumers don't realize is that the pigs get much better care now then they ever did before. They are safe, warm and fed... out of the elements... get the best vaccines, antibiotics, etc. Why don't they post videos of what wild dogs, wolves, etc would do them if they got a hold of them or their piglets?? Far worse death than what we do to them in the end with stunning and co2. *SIGH* | |
