I would recommend some high dividend yielding stocks right now. Dupont is nearly at 5%. If they didn't cut it during the past year, they're likely never to. 5% is much more than you'll get from any bond etc. Verizon is yielding a lot so are some of the pipelines like Kinder Morgan. Also some of the pharma names. You're young so you probably want some equity exposure if you plan to hold long term.
