Subject: Re: Stalls for daughters new barn??

Aberdeen MS
Mine are more of permanent nature.

I put in 10 X 10's, I laid 6 courses of concrete block and then a solid frame wall up from there another 4' and lined that with 3/8" plywood. There is another 1' plus of "open air" above the plywood with a 2 X 8 joisted ceiling/floor above that for hay and straw storage on top.

The fronts are stall front framework with sliding door that I supplied the lumber (2 X 6 or 2 X 8) for. Couple years ago they were $385/front delivered (about 50 miles). The wood portion extends up about 4' and pipe @ 3 1/2" spacing the other 4' for an 8' tall front.

Each stall is completely isolated from the next.... I have 3 10 X 10's side by side with one end being a 10 X 20 that has outside access. There is another 10 X 10 that will be totally enclosed for a small tack/accessory room. This is against an end wall in 50' pole barn. Part of the barn is my shop and there was already a lower block kick wall dividing the barn as it used to be a freel loaf cattle barn. Only thing I'd like to change is taking out the concrete floor for the stall portion.

The total barn length is 187' with 45' in shop, then the stalls and a wide walk way. Then I have a 50 X 65' indoor riding arena, leaving about 45' for large machinery parking. That end door is the only door on the yard I can get my combine into.

My vet is extremely impressed on my stall configuration and set up. I can put my stud in any stall with any horse alongside him with absolutely no troubles what so ever. He can't see anyone except out the front of the stall, so his "space" is never compromised.
