Whatever you do make sure the sides of the stalls are solid at least 48" up from the ground. Horses will kick the walls of their stall for any and no reason at all (don't like the neighbor horse, lightnening/loud noise, bored, just felt like it). If there is a way to catch a hoof they will do it. Maybe not today or tomorrow, but eventually one of them will do it. Usually the kid's favorite/most epensive critter. I won't bore you with stories of my horses' shananigans. Too many of them over the last 30 years. :-)
