Nebraska | I have three sons age 2, 4, and 6. Our six year old was a Clover Kid this year in 4-H. He showed a bucket calf in the fair this year for the younger kids they call this the Pee Wee bucket calf division. These kids age six to eight do not recieve any money for their entries it gives them something to learn from, and lets them show their calf. Dear old dad bought the calf and feed. It made me proud to see him take the responsibility to learn how to care for the calf and learn to lead it. He thought he was big stuff going to the fair and showing his calf. He does know what happens to them when they go to market just ask and he will tell you. He was 4 the first time he rode with to take a steer to the butcher. He will tell you this if you ask we took the steer to the butcher and they turned him into meat its his job to feed us. Do I think that telling him that this is what happens to them is cruel no, this is a fact of life and if they don't learn it young they will never understand.
