Don't know about onions and the flu, but check out the website below. It is about Waldo McBurney from Quinter, KS. He died recently at age 106. He used to clean seed wheat for my father in law. At noon, they would quit and my inlaws would always invite him in for lunch. He always replied, "No thanks, I brought an onion." And that is what he ate. A whole onion, and maybe some honey.  His book "My First 100 Years" is an interesting biography.  He still holds world records for 10K and marathon races for his age group (I believe in his 80's and 90's).  Onions anyone?
