He had you sell a call??? Why not buy a put instead?? Im not really very knowledgeable about puts and calls, but I do dabble from time to time. Would not have buying a put accomplished the same thing , while at the same time limitting your losses should the market rally? Yes I understand that buying the put forces you to write a check, and that selling a call puts money in your account but as you already know if the market goes against you the margin call on those calls can quickly outstrip the cost of a put. Once took a basic course on options and one of the things the guy emphasized was that unless you have deep pockets and a thick skin it was very unwise to ever "sell" any type of option as it opened you up to margin calls, he really pushed the 'buying'of options because it limited the potential losses.
