Missouri | I'll second that LA 200 is like using water, around here. Best treatment is early detection. Might give a few unnecessary shots but it is better than getting a chronic or fatality. If calf looks cross eyed he gets a shot. Got to be easier to give treatment than to bury one. Good facilities really help. Marking system of red marker makes easy record keeping. As a Black calf with no ear tag looks same as the next. So Monday is at Shoulders in line with Spine. Tues and Thurs across Spine, going back with each day of the week, with Sunday on Tail Head. Record of treatment stays with the calf. Really easy. Nuflor primary treatment add Banimine if off feed or fever. Move up scale to Drax when this stops working. Low grade antibiotics in daily feed. Prevention level only. Twice a day feeding first 10 days after weaning. Can improve identification of sickies by 12 hours. If one never gets a sick calf just wean more of them. Have seen piles of dead calves at feedlot where the pen size was 400 head. Was not pretty. They buy Nuflor by the case. | |
