50's do it too....My high serial number 4450 still starts and revs to 2000 rpms and then falls back to lopping idle. I've never known why they are designed that way.
I started the 4450 one day right after calf weaning (hot and sweaty from bawling for their mothers)and it scared them so bad I thought they were going to take down the corals.
