In that case, I'd use Windows backup to create a backup file of what I wanted backed up and the push the resulting backup file over to the FTP server.

That way you get all the Windows file attributes presevered from machine to machine without them getting stripped or re-interpreted by the FTP server.

Remember to set your FTP mode to binary if you use this technique. Treat the backup file as just a big bag of bytes.
