SW South Dakota | Kind of interesting how things vary with regions. Our phone lines have been buried as long as I can remember, but I'm only 37. I remember scattered poles along the road when I was a kid but no lines. In the larger towns they still have overhead phone/cable lines.
We had fiber optic buried in here about 12 years ago, so are fortunate to have high speed internet. Because of how sparsely populated we are, I think the said it cost about 20,000 be used. Not sure where the funding came from, but it has been good to have. Because of the fiber optic lines we have had more cell towers go up greatly improving cell service. | |
