Fontanelle, IA | I have been enjoying everyone's chopping and weaning pictures over the past 3 weeks and wanted to post a few of my calves! I just weaned them about 1 week ago (Thursday/Friday).
Just weighing across my local coop's scale, my mixed trailer loads were 540 and 575# average. They obviously have shrunk up quite a bit from weaning day to day 4-5 post weaning (yesterday picture taken). My current bulls are red angus and black angus on top of small % simmy/high % angus cows. (Exception would be my old Hereford clean-up/spare bull bred my favorite Red/white simmy cow...… hence the twin chromes in last picture).
However, how would you grade my set of calves' "grade" on the feeder calf index? Would they be 50% Medium and Large #1 and 50% medium and large 1-2? or just 100% medium and large 1-2? I am curious about your thoughts as to how buyers rate and bid on group after group after group in the short 30-60 seconds the calves are in the sale barn ring?
