Missouri | Location definitely matters. I think the op is probably half way between us so a little of both going on there.
We knew we were in a drought in January/February. When it didn't rain in March and April, the people who didn't react in some way had no one to blame but themselves.
The weather windows for wrapping can be very small if you get it laid out thin when cut so dry hay shouldn't stop anyone from digging themselves out of a hole. After tedding, raking, flipping, and merging I regretted not just wrapping all of it as the wrapping costs were easily ate up with all the extra work. I envy those who mentioned building a multi year hay barn and buying when it's dirt cheap, but I can't convince myself to spend the money up front to operate that way even if I think it could work. |
