East Central Iowa | I have the opportunity to custom winter 100 head of beef cows for my neighbor. I have enough cornstalks to run them on, and then plan to place them in my barnyard when the weather gets rough. While they are on stalks, I plan to supplement them with grass/ hay mixed bales. In the barnyard, I plan to feed grass/hay mixed bales, corn silage on occasion, and maybe a little bit of corn. Also will need to use corn stalk bales to bed the sheds in the barnyard.
I was wondering what a fair price would be to overwinter the cows since this would be my first year of doing this sort of thing. Probably a head/per day basis would be the best scenario. Hay prices around here are bringing 125-145$ per ton. | |
