East central Iowa | I've been experimenting with different brands and types within brands using different rifles. What shoots very accurately in one doesn't in the other. As to taking down small game, any hollow point .22 long rifle will suffice.
Probably the first thing to do is sight in your rifle at whatever distance you intend to shoot. I prefer sighting in at 50 yards, but others may differ. The type of rifle and barrel length will have some effect on bullet drop.
I have killed a 1200 pound steer with a .22 so I think a skunk, rabbit, fox, squirrel etc. should be no problem.
